Our business relies on our ability to provide accurate rankings for our clients. Often, our clients will view incongruous information as opposed to our SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) and vice-versa. With the introduction of Google personalised search, results are often tailored to the individual based on their browsing history. Click on your competitor too many times, and they will appear above your site. This is because Google thinks that they are more relevant for you, as you keep on continuously clicking on them.

Many, if not most of us have a Gmail account that we are permanently logged in to. You will notice that you are logged in by viewing the top right of your screen. This profile is associated with all your searches; by being logged in, your search results will be customised and will most definitely be dissimilar to everyone else.

So what is the simple solution; is it to logout? A few months ago, I would have replied with a definite, ‘yes’… However, the situation has now been changed. Even if you are not logged in, Google is still customising your search results on your computer. Most people are unaware that this is taking place and would appreciate knowing how to undo it. To undo it, follow the easy instructions below:

• Click Web History (top right)
web history

• Click Disable customisations based on search activity.

Once this is done, you will begin to see pure results that are unburdened by Google’s own search activities.
