Smyths Toys is one of the biggest toy stores in the UK, with almost 40 stores situated throughout the UK and Ireland. Smyths provides consumers with an extensive range of high quality products at competitive prices, and their e-commerce website enables customers throughout Ireland and the UK to place orders online, purchase gift vouchers, check product availability and find stores in their area.


The Brief

R.O.I. Media was contracted to help Smyths Toys increase their rankings in search engines, ultimately increasing traffic to their website. The aim was to focus on product pages in addition to landing pages and category pages, while targeting specific product keywords as well as their primary niche keywords.


The Solution

To help Smyths Toys achieve their online goals, R.O.I. Media implemented a targeted SEO strategy to increase rankings and improve traffic levels. The Smyths SEO campaign was initiated in November 2008.

The initial work began with the SEO onsite setup, which included a content improvement strategy as well as minor design and development tweaks as per our intensive onsite checklist.

From this point on, a monthly campaign strategy was put into place. This included ongoing services such as product and category content page enhancements, onsite optimisation, keyword targeting, link-building, basic social media marketing, analysis and reporting plus extensive website quality control.


Overall Results

As the website analytics results show, Smyths’ traffic has grown steadily over the past year, with the majority of traffic (74%) coming from search engine results. All search engine traffic is organic or non-paid. Google counts for 84% of incoming traffic.


Traffic Growth over Campaign

November counts as the most important month for online toys sales in preparation for the Christmas sales season (a key period for toy sales). Smyths and R.O.I Media teamed up to boost organic search engine traffic. When we compare the festive season of 2008-2009, spectacular increases show that organic traffic increased drastically by 506,037 visits or 154%.
